Sunny Skies is drowning. The problem, besides the whole not being able to breathe part, is that when her life flashes before her eyes, she doesn't recognize any of it. Convinced the universe phoned in a default slideshow, Sunny gives in to the current.

After a fisherman snags the 26-year-old in his net, she decides it's time to cast off her hermitlike ways. When she meets slightly-less-awkward-than-her Brian, an archery-loving neat freak, she discovers that living her new life might be scarier than drowning. But scary or not, this may be the only chance for Sunny Skies.

A Chance for Sunny Skies (Audible Audio Edition) Eryn Scott Bridget Haight Eryn Carpenter Books

Oh my goodness, I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Her name is Sunny Skies and she may be a mess but she's a riot. The whole cast of characters in all their quirky weirdness (even the unpleasant ones) are wonderfully over the top. There's a little cussing and although Sunny and Brian end up sleeping together there is no graphic sex. The editing is well done (thank you). The story is a complete stand alone without side stories as hooks or cliffhangers (thank you again). It's written in first person and the dialog (including self talk) is witty and fun. I can't imagine any adult young or old (I'm a grandmother many times over) not laughing and perhaps shedding a couple tears while reading this book. Enjoy!

A Chance for Sunny Skies (Audible Audio Edition) Eryn Scott Bridget Haight Eryn Carpenter Books Reviews

This writer is obviously extremely talented and I couldn't be more impressed with this book. I've suffered from social anxiety - though nothing like as awful as Sunny - so I could definitely relate. The description of her feelings and reactions was spot on. Her language is so descriptive in such a fresh and original way. I could literally see, hear, smell and taste whatever she was describing. Seriously one of the best written novels I've read in a while.
Semi-spoilers here!
I haven't even finished this book, but already I love it and can't wait to find out what's next for Sunny. Sunny (our heroine) is a socially awkward bundle of neuroses who, when nearly drowning, sees images not of her own life, but a series of seemingly random items (a fence, a yoga bag, etc) in her mind. She's surprised when the first item from her visions shows up in her life, and decides to investigate what it might mean. Along the way, other items from her vision pop into her life, and as she investigates each one, her life begins to change.

I can't say more than that because, as mentioned, I haven't yet finished the book. But I can't wait to find out to learn more of Sunny's story. And the author makes it so enjoyable to follow Sunny's tale, with wonderful descriptions and great turns of phrase (example from a scene where Sunny and her new friend Rainbow are in a smoothie shop with a guy, and Rainy leaves the conversationally-challenged, socially-phobic Sunny alone to chat with the new guy "Rainy only went to the toilet a few moments ago, and this conversation seemed to have followed just as quickly. I needed to get out." I know I've felt similarly when a conversation seems to get flushed!)

Again, I can't wait to read and laugh more, but Sunny Skies is already someone I'm going to turn to for inspiration when I'm feeling tongue-tied and out of place.
*I read an advanced copy of this novel*

First of all — this book is hilarious. The moment we met Sunny it's like, ohmygosh cringe-worthy slash I-can-so-relate slash how-is-Sunny-gonna-get-her-HEA? The story is unexpected because it takes such a funny approach to a story line that could be intense. Sunny, for all her insecurities and self-doubt, comes to life as Eryn introduces us to a unique and well-developed cast of characters and weaves in this whole concept of life-flashing-before-your-eyes in a way I haven't seen before. I found myself trying to guess the other "items" that Sunny was looking for. I like that Sunny isn't perfect, she is flawed, but also, that's why I love her. Highly recommend!
This book, with a hint of whimsy, is high quality chick lit. It's beautifully written, often very funny, depiction of a woman's determination to conquer her crippling anxiety and create a life for herself. One step after another she makes progress. Sometimes it's two steps forward and one step backwards, but Sunny's inner life is extremely engaging and sharing her journey becomes a celebration of her spirit. More than "just a beach read." Sunny is a heroine to be applauded.
What a fun book! Eryn Scott's story about a young woman, named Sunny, begins with a near-death experience and the vision she has of what should be her life passing before her eyes. Sunny is a mis-fit in every sense of the word. She is alone in this world with her cat, and a mother that is fun to hate! The characters who make their way into Sunny's new life are rich and full-bodied. The adventures Sunny faces are equally hysterically funny and heart breaking. I found myself cheering for Sunny, and still surprised at a few of her choices. This is one of the funnest books I've read in quite awhile. Just pure enjoyment. I'll be watching this author and eagerly awaiting new work.
The first more than 3/4 of this book was excellent. The descriptions of how Sunny felt in social situations (she has severe anxiety) were perfect. Her interactions (especially on her first date) were often downright funny they were so awkward. I was totally loving the book and then just when it was wrapping up like a perfect mind vacation book, everything changed. I kind of felt like the author got to the end of the story, realized it was a bit too short, and tacked on a bit of a mess. Even so, it’s still a good book to read when you want a little break.
Every now and then you come across a story that is so awesome that you hate to see it end! This is definitely one of those stories! You will not only fall in love with Sunny but the author makes you actually feel every one of Sunny's thoughts and struggles. There were times I actually laughed out loud and other times when I wanted to wrap my arms around Sunny to give her a hug. Do NOT pass this one up!
